A US survey has found that many contact lens wearers suffer when allergies strike.
The Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) discovered that around half of people switch to wearing glasses from contact lenses when they get allergies, while 45 per cent wear them less often.
It was also found that many contact lens wearers found themselves less attractive when wearing glasses.
For those who want to avoid wearing contacts because they suffer from allergies, ortho k lenses could help.
Paul Karpecki, clinical director of Kofler Vision Group in Kentucky, said: "Allergy sufferers who wear contact lenses that you use for two weeks or more may experience discomfort and symptoms such as ocular itching, tearing and redness because allergens and other irritants can build up on contact lenses."
As ortho k lenses are worn at night, there is no chance that allergens can build up on them during the day, meaning they can help to avoid the irritating itchiness and redness that many day lens wearers suffer with.
