Ortho k lens wearers needn't worry about daily wear lenses, but those who do are putting their eye health at risk by not replacing them often enough.
Although many contact lens wearers know the importance of replacing them, some are still not doing so.
That is according to new research from the Centre for Contact Lens Research (CCLR) at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry, which has found that as many as a quarter of people are not replacing their lenses as often as they should to save money.
Additionally, half of the respondents claimed that they forgot which day to replace their lenses.
Ortho k lenses can be a great option for anyone who doesn't want to worry about their eyes during they day, or carry around associated contact lens materials such as solutions.
The specially-created overnight contact lenses help reshape the cornea while asleep, meaning that the wearer will have better
natural vision upon awaking.
Desmond Fonn, director of the CCLR and professor at the school, said: "Although patients appear to be aware of potential complications of not replacing their contact lenses when recommended, compliance to the replacement schedules is still apparently low, particularly with two-week replacement lenses."
