Laser eye surgery can be a risky procedure and it seems that not all high street clinics are being honest about its cost and dangers.
Research from Which? earlier this year found that many high street clinics were giving not only unsatisfactory advice about the risks of
laser eye surgery but also were charging more than they advertised.
No consultants were noted as "good" by the panel of experts.
It also found that one clinician claimed that "things cannot go wrong".
Martyn Hocking, editor of Which? magazine, said: "People need to be aware of the potentially serious and long-term risks, so that they can have realistic expectations and commit to the procedure with open eyes."
Those who want to avoid the risks of
laser eye surgery could try
orthokeratology lenses.
Additionally, ortho k lenses provide a reversible treatment, unlike laser surgery which could cause permanent damage and should be a last resort.
