Ortho k contact lenses have been suggested as an alternative to Lasik eye laser surgery.

On the Portland Mercury's Questionland, one person asks if they should look into surgery as they are an active person.

ROM asked: "I do active sports like surfing, tennis and pinball and glasses/bad vision get in the way of all these things."

Responding to the question of whether or not to have eye laser surgery, Bikefor1 said: "If you're not eligible, don't despair. There is always ortho-k, which is what I do."

Ortho k contact lenses are a great alternative to the risks of eye laser surgery.

The overnight corrective contact lenses are only worn while asleep and are taken out in the morning once awake.

For sporty people, or those who are hoping to avoid risky eye laser surgery, ortho k lenses can be great alternative.

They work by gently reshaping the cornea, giving the wearer perfectly natural vision.

When the lenses are removed in the morning the user will be able to see clearly for the rest of the day.

Many people may find that they are not suitable for Lasik eye laser surgery, such as those with corneas that are too thin or pupils that are too wide.

Temporary effects that can be experienced from the surgery include dryness of eyes for up to a year, a drooping eyelid and a halo or starburst effect.

Complications of eye laser surgery include haziness or scarring, the return of short-sightedness or problems with the flap that is made in the cornea.
