The survey carried out by The London Vision Clinic found that specs make people look 3.3 years older, the Daily Mail reports. Those who wear glasses were also perceived as "geeky" less confident and viewed as physically weak compared with people who do not wear glasses.
However there are more practical negatives to wearing glasses than just those of vanity. Problems which can hinder your eyesight if you wear glasses are things like glasses steaming up when coming in from the cold or rain drops and sticky finger marks on the lenses. Many glasses wearers develop a habit of constantly pushing there glasses back up their noses and peripheral vision is severly impaired by the gaps around the frames.
An alternative option to improve eyesight and get rid of glasses is "overnight vision correction". This involves wearing specially shaped contact lenses at night which gently flatten the cornea to correct your eyesight removing the need for contact lenses or glasses during the day.
Many glasses wearers are people who have tried contact lenses in the past but found that their eyes became sore and dry and so moved back to glasses for comfort reasons. The benefit of overnight vision correction is that the lenses are only worn for 6-8 hours while sleeping versus 12 hours for most daytime contact lenses. There is no barrier on the eye during the day so oxygen and moisture can pass freely into the eye, hence problems of dry eye and soreness are alleviated.
"This study is interesting as it highlights the snap judgments we make as a society about people when we meet them for the first time," psychologist Dr. Glenn Wilson told the paper. "This association seems to hark back to the school playground, with a quarter of those surveyed admitting they were teased as a child for wearing glasses."
