Jo McGilchrist's World Cup campaign with England begins with a 27-0 win over Ireland; which is her first game wearing corrective contact lenses at night.
 
Women's Rugby World Cup 2010 hosts England commenced their world title bid with a clear victory against Ireland at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford on Friday evening.
 

Although Ireland did not score they made England work for their Wasps and England lock Jo McGilchrist said, "It was a really good game. It was pretty fast paced and a little bit manic. We needed to control it a little bit better but generally it was pretty good. We dominated in the scrum".

England Head Coach Gary Street said: "We have been training for this world cup for a very long time so to get our first win under our belts is very pleasing, and especially to get the bonus point. We did the things we wanted to do and I feel like I can say that this was a good day in the office.

"On Tuesday we'll play Kazakhstan, so now we have got to go back and get our heads down and start concentrating on that match. There are things we must improve on and hopefully we can execute them for our second encounter."
 

Jo McGilchrist, who is short-sighted, is playing rugby for the first time without her contact lenses. She now uses overnight vision correction to correct her eyesight. She has had some specially designed overnight corrective contact lenses fitted, which correct her vision while she is asleep. The lenses gently flatten the cornea so that light focuses correctly on the retina

England will now play Kazakhstan on Tuesday August 24 at Surrey Sports Park, kick off 6.30pm.
