Eye laser surgery is one option for sports people who are searching for a way to get rid of their glasses or prescription goggles.
Speedskating star Chad Hedrick could have used
ortho k lenses, should he have wanted to avoid
eye laser surgery risks.
Speaking to the DailyRecord.com, surgeon Cary Silverman said: "Vision plays a huge role in almost every sport. All these guys are talking about speed and that competitive edge.
"They're worrying about their contact lenses falling out and their vision going blurry."
Although Mr Hedrick went for eye laser surgery,
ortho k would have also been one option that would have meant he could have given up day wear lenses.
Worn at night and removed in the morning,
orthokeratology lenses reshape the cornea so that
natural vision returns during the day.
For sports stars it can be a blessing, as it helps to avoid the risks of eye laser surgery and the potential of contact lens falling out at an inopportune moment.
