Overnight vision corrective contact lenses could be the answer for those taking to the pool or beach this summer.
Swimmers are well aware of the vision problems of having to wear glasses or contacts lenses in water. However overnight vision corrective contact lenses also known as Ortho k lenses could be the answer.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses you really need to invest in prescription swimming goggles, as glasses are obviously not an option for swimming.
The advice of the British College of Optometrists is also that you should never wear contact lenses when swimming unless you are wearing swimming goggles. This is because if water gets under the lenses it can bind with the materials that contact lenses are made from and there is the risk of infection.
But it is not only swimmers that need to worry as anyone simply taking a bath or a shower can have problems if they wear contact lenses or glasses.
Overnight vision corrective contact lenses are special lenses which are only worn at night and reshape your eyes while sleeping. They provide a great way of returning to natural vision without the need for wearing any other vision correction during the day.
Marcus who is a keen swimmer and now uses corrective contact lenses says “When it came to swimming and surfing and generally spending time on the beach wearing contact lenses is a no go. I found this out to my cost having picked up a nasty eye infection whilst swimming in a pool on holiday wearing my lenses. I cannot now imagine going back to daily lenses.”
As well as allowing for a better swimming experience, it also means that swimmers can wear goggles that have not been prescribed to them by an optician – which can be very expensive.
If you enjoy taking to the water regularly, it may be worth exploring the options corrective contact lenses give you.
