Watford footballer Jay DeMerit, who had an unfortunate accident with a contact lens, is hoping to be back on the pitch soon.
DeMerit, who is also part of the US national football team, got a piece of grit stuck under his lens, causing him to require emergency surgery.
Normal surgery would have required him to be out of the game for months, but a new technique means he now aims to be back by Christmas, the Watford Observer reports.
The surgery involved DeMerit requiring a replacement cornea, after the dirt caused an infection in his eye.
Overnight contact lenses could have stopped him from experiencing the problem.
Ortho k lenses would have meant that DeMerit would have eyes free of any paraphernalia, so the problem would have likely never occurred.
The lenses are ideal for sports players, as problems such as them falling out during a game or getting lost simply don't exist.
