All children in Wales should get their eyes tested at school.
That is the opinion of Welsh shadow health minister Andrew Davies, who made a plea for the rolling out of an eye screening scheme.
According to the South Wales Argus, Mr Davies said that it would help detect and treat "serious problems".
"It also means children struggling with tasks like seeing the blackboard can get the help they need before it impacts on their learning or confidence," he said in a debate at the Welsh National Assembly.
Some children may be wary about taking a trip to the opticians as it could lead to them having to wear glasses.
However, in cases of shortsightedness it is worth bearing in mind that

It is great for parents too, who will be able to take a more proactive approach to their children's vision problems as they can be there when the lenses need to be put in and taken out.
