A US-based paediatrician has suggested that parents may not know if their
children have eyesight difficulties.
Barry Goldman, a doctor at the
Children's Health Centre in Gurnee, said that many childhood vision problems go undetected due to their adaptability to such issues.
Now, Dr Goldman has created a test for his practice and others in Chicago aimed at helping parents to find out if their child has vision difficulties.
Named the Enfant Pediatric VEP Testing System, doctors can assess
children as young as six months with the product.
Dov Shapiro, a paediatrician at Associated Pediatric Partners, said: "Early detection of a vision deficit leads to early referral to an eye care specialist for earlier treatment, which means better outcomes for the patient."
For
children, having to wear glasses can be difficult, with many choosing not too because of the potential for name calling in school and expense for parents.
However, ortho k lenses offer the opportunity for young ones to avoid wearing glasses during the day.
Worn at night, ortho k lenses help shape the cornea meaning that wearers can see better during the day, without the need for any further visionary aids.
