A teenager from Chorleywood is the latest person to speak to the press about the benefits of
ortho k lenses.
Shortsighted Michael Davis, 13, has been wearing
orthokeratology lenses for the past two years, allowing him to free up his life to do things he really enjoys, such as swimming.
Speaking to the Watford Observer, Michael said that in his experience, the overnight vision correction lenses help restore his sight for a "couple of days".
"Because I play a lot of sports, it helps a lot instead of having to wear glasses," he told the newspaper.
"It means I don't have to think about breaking or losing them. If I wore normal contacts, I would have to take them out if I was going swimming."
Michael plays a variety of sports which benefit from his wearing of
ortho k lenses, including karate, baseball and rugby.
The teenager's father Ward said that were "really convenient".
"Eventually, it could somewhat slow the change in his eyesight but they will be testing that for the next few years."
An additional benefit of
ortho k lenses, other than their convenience for highly active young people, is that parents can be more active in their approach to their child's eye care, checking that lenses are being put in and taken out correctly.
