While it has been found in the past that
children gain a self-esteem boost with the wearing of contact lenses, it has now been found that girls are particularly receptive.
Speaking at a recent meeting of the Society for Behavioral Medicine, Dr Mitchell Prinstein said that adolescent girls that wear glasses and suffer from low-self esteem could try an alternative.
"An intervention as simple as switching youths' glasses to contact lenses can help boost girls' sense of self-worth and self-efficacy during this stage of their development," he said.
Girls were found to be particularly susceptible to low self esteem due to the wearing of glasses.
Anyone looking for an alternative to the chore of wearing daily wear lenses could consider the alternatives offered by ortho k lenses.
As they are worn at night, girls who do not want to think about their eyes during the day needn't, as the overnight
vision correction lenses help to reshape the cornea and lead to
natural vision during the day.
With
children under more pressure than ever to grow up fast, taking away the extra pressure of glasses could be a great way of boosting confidence.
