Many parents are not considering contact lenses for their
children.
That is the finding of a survey by Fairfield Research conducted among members of the Good Housekeeping Reader Advisory Panel on behalf of Acuvue, which has found that many parents know their child wants to wear contacts, but stops them.
Around 50 per cent of parents claimed their child would rather wear contacts than glasses, but 40 per cent of those claimed they were not comfortable with contact lenses.
Dr Mary Lou French, commenting on the issue, said: "The growing body of research in
children's vision correction continues to demonstrate that contact lenses provide collateral benefits to
children beyond simply correcting their vision.
"Research shows that for girls, in particular, a switch from glasses to contact lenses, may result in improvement in self-perception."
Three quarters of parents admitted that they would rather their child wore contact lenses for playing sports.
