Ortho k could be an alternative option for children
With the majority of children now back at school, many parents will be concerned about what the educational year will throw up.

Making sure that kids can see well is just one way of helping them achieve their absolute best.

Postcrescent.com has noted that many children will not know that they are having vision problems and as such, will not communicate that they need any assistance.

Therefore, it is vital to get a child's eyes checked at the beginning of the school year of if you are in any doubt that they cannot see well.

Dr Carin LaCount of Family Focused Vision Care told the publication: "It doesn't matter if you're able to see 20/20. 20/20 vision does not mean that your eyes are working together properly or working in conjunction with the brain."

Parents may be concerned that children's contact lenses will be needed or even potentially glasses.

However, there is an alternative and that is ortho k lenses.

The special overnight correction lenses are perfect for children as they can not only help them see better but new research has also found that it can possibly halt or slow the progression of myopia (shortsightedness).

In addition, parents can control when their children put their contacts in and take them out as they will likely be at home, unlike normal contact lenses that can be taken out and put in whenever.

Dr LaCount added that a yearly eye exam was the best way to "cover your bases".

"As their bodies change, their eyes change," she said.

If you are concerned about taking your child to an optician because of the possibility of wearing glasses, rest assured that ortho k lenses could be a great vision correction alternative.
