An expert has highlighted the importance of myopia control for children
Eye tests for young children can help them in life and through school, an expert has said, highlighting the importance of myopia control in children.

Dr Cody Jones, an optometrist at Complete Family Eye Care in the US, told KIDK that most parents are surprised when they are told that eye exams can be performed on an infant.

He said: "Vision plays a big part in what we learn in school, and as we grow up-just our experiences in life."

The eye doctor hopes that parents will take advantage of baby check-ups to identify problems at the earliest stage possible.

Doctors can look for a wide range of issues, including lazy eye, cataracts, or even cancer, which, if found early, can be treated better, allowing children's eyes to develop properly.

He added that, including paperwork, eye tests usually take just 45 minutes and noted that children need to be treated with care so as not to rue the experience.

"If there are any difficulties a lot of times we'll have them come back or we'll do the best we can at that time, because we don't want them to become fearful of the eye doctor," he told the news provider.

Orthokeratology contact lenses can help with myopia control for children at a young age by halting the progression of short sightedness.

The corrective contact lenses reshape the eye gently overnight and are taken out when the wearer is awake.

Orthok night time contact lenses provide natural vision for the rest of the day.

The special orthok contact lenses can also act as a form of myopia control for children by restraining the elongation of the eye which causes the condition.
