A girl who was born with half a brain has before now baffled scientists with how she has perfectly normal
natural vision.
Now, it has been discovered why.
The University of Glasgow has reported findings in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences which show that the ten-year-old German girl's brain rewired itself in the womb.
Only the left side of her brain developed, with the right side usually mapping the eye's field of vision.
It is believed that the girl's left and right field of vision is nearly perfect in one eye.
Lead author of the research, Dr Lars Muckli, said: "This study has revealed the surprising flexibility of the brain when it comes to self-organising mechanisms for forming visual maps."
It is believed that she is the only person in the world who can see both fields of vision through just one eye.
