Three quarters of Brits are putting their eye health at risk because of the cost of glasses and contact lenses.
That is according to a new survey commissioned by sight charity The Eyecare Trust.
The recent recession and the cutting back of household budgets are among the reasons that people are putting off taking an eye test.
It is advised that everyone has an eye test at least once every two years not only to check for problems with eyesight but also other more general ill-health.
Iain Anderson, chairman of the Eyecare Trust, said: "When you remember that eyecare is a professional service the cost is remarkably good value compared, say, to having your car serviced."
Raman Sankaran from Simplyhealth added: "Early diagnosis can result in successful treatment for a range of common eye conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma."
Some people may put off eye tests as they are worried that they may be forced to wear glasses or day wear contact lenses.
However,
ortho k contact lenses could be a great alternative to the norm.
Worn at night,
orthokeratology contact lenses help people to see normally by gently reshaping the cornea while asleep.
Once awake, the wearer takes the
ortho k contact lenses out and is able to see clearly for the rest of the day.
With official figures suggested that the number of people register blind by 2030 will double, it is important to remember that eye tests can help avoid problems in the future.
For those who are worried about the results of their tests,
ortho k contact lenses should be remembered as a good alternative to the traditional glasses and day wear lenses.
