Overnight correction lenses could help with compliance issues
A new survey is aiming to assess whether contact lens manufacturers are doing enough to resolve compliance issues.

According to Lens Alert, contact lens care is "out of control" and manufacturers need to take more responsibility to improve compliance statistics.

The questionnaire from the firm, which is available online, asks contact lens wearers to assess the importance of various compliance issues, including not replacing dirty contact lens cases, not washing hands when putting lenses in, swimming in contact lenses and topping off solution.

It also questions people on whether they think contact lens manufacturers should clearly label their boxes as 14-day or 30-day lenses to make people more aware of replacement schedules.

Contact lens manufacturers' level of care will also be judged, with respondents being asked to rate firms' efforts to teach patients proper lens care from A to F.

The results of the survey will be presented to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Optometric Association, Contact Lenses Today, Vision Monday and Contact Lens Spectrum.

Individuals who have difficulty complying with contact lens care guidance may benefit from using Ortho-k overnight correction lenses.

The contact lenses are only worn during the night and work by flattening the cornea so that the light focuses correctly on the back of the retina. The next day the wearer's cornea will keep the corrected shape for at least 36 hours, significantly improving their vision.

In addition to giving people 20:20 vision both when wearing them and after taking them out, Ortho-k contact lenses are much more convenient than glasses or regular contact lenses as people can pop them out in the morning and forget about them for the rest of the day.
