Contact lenses for dry eyes  worn only while sleeping can provide an important aid to short-sighted women in helping them to avoid eye infections and irritations which are often directly associated with wearing makeup. Wearing makeup when you have dry eyes is already a hassle (mascara blocking your tear ducts, eye shadow getting into your eyes and increasing the sandy sensation, constant rubbing that ruins those smoky eyes, the list goes on) and this can often be exacerbated by daytime contact lens wear. Given that many of us daytime lens wearers work in climate-controlled office environments and our jobs often involve screen-based work, the combination of dry air and reduced blink rates from staring at a screen invariably make our dry eye problem worse. Then add a makeup-related problem and the condition can become very bad indeed.

If we don't want to wear glasses yet we find our daytime contact lenses have become unbearable because of dry eye and makeup-related eye health problems, we either have to struggle on or think about resorting to laser surgery - that's if our dry eye condition will allow it. Or do we? Maybe not now that the new ortho-k corrective contact lenses for dry eyes  have been launched. These small custom-designed lenses are only worn at night then removed each morning after which you enjoy perfect vision all day long until the lenses are reinserted at night. They work by gently flattening the surface of the eye during sleep to achieve the necessary eyesight correction and the effect lasts for at least 24 hours.

There are some makeup tips we know we should follow to maintain good eye health - but often don't. Like ensuring we throw away makeup - especially mascara which is water-based - once it reaches its expiry date to avoid it becoming contaminated. And also trying to keep makeup away from the corners of our eyes where it can often accumulate undetected leading to potentially serious eye infections even if we are tired after a night out and are trying to clean up in a hurry. Well now we should think about throwing away our daytime contact lenses and switching to overnight ortho-k contact lenses for dry eyes  so that we only wear our lenses when our eyes are free from makeup and we no longer struggle with that dry eye irritation after another day at the office.
