Contact lenses for dry eyes  worn only while sleeping could be the perfect solution for shortsighted fashion models as they prepare for their session on the catwalk - a particularly topical issue as New York Fashion week gets underway. Why is it so topical? Well actress and singer Meaghan Martin is in New York to participate in style icon Robert Verdi"s annual Luxe Lab Twitter Party, where she will also be extolling the virtues of the new 1-day Acuvue Moist Brand Contact Lenses manufactured by Johnson and Johnson. She explained: "I am so thrilled to be in New York City to be a part of the excitement of Fashion Week. It is exciting to be on the front lines of the latest trends and share my experiences with everyone."

The catwalk is a particularly difficult environment for daytime contact lens wearers since the combination of bright lighting and climate-controlled air systems have a strong evaporative effect which removes moisture from the air. Given that many models spend long hours in such conditions both for fashion shows and for photo shoots, it is not unusual for those who wear daytime contact lenses to complain of irritation and discomfort due to the effect of dry eye syndrome. However, the new overnight ortho-k corrective contact lenses for dry eyes  are only worn while sleeping so the busy fashion model spends her days and evenings completely lens-free and no-one knows she is shortsighted.

The ortho-k lenses work by gently flattening the surface of the eye during sleep to ensure that light focuses directly on the retina rather than in front of it so ensuring that distant objects can be viewed clearly. The corrective effect is temporary but lasts a full day so the ortho-k lens wearer has perfect lens-free vision all day long until reinserting the lenses again at night. Fashion models use contact lenses to help correct their vision without compromising their appearance on the catwalk and to be able to look their best in a photo shoot.
