Contact lenses for dry eye  worn only while sleeping which work by gently flattening the surface of the eye overnight to correct short-sightedness can provide the same great vision benefits of laser treatment - but without the surgery. After the custom-designed lenses are removed each morning, the wearer enjoys perfect natural daytime vision all day long until the lenses are reinserted at night. Many daytime contact lens wearers suffer from dry, irritable eyes and would love to be able to be lens-free during the day but don't want to switch to wearing glasses and may find the cost or fear of laser treatment - or both - a big turn-off.

Dry eye is one of today's biggest eye health problems and reflects the fact that more and more people who wear daytime contact lenses work indoors in climate-controlled offices which remove moisture from the air and by doing so dry out the eyes. This effect is then worsened by the problem of significantly increased work time being spent on PC-based activities which involves too much staring at computer screens resulting in 80% lower blink rates and hence less moisture being released to the surface of the eye from the tear film. So by switching to contact lenses for dry eye  which are only worn overnight, short-sighted daytime lens wearers can deal with the problem successfully.

Whilst laser eye surgery has grown significantly over the past 10 years and new treatment technologies offer lower risks and better post-operative recovery, it remains a high cost procedure and - most importantly for many prospective candidates - it is not reversible. So even though risk factors are relatively low, there are still potential problems which can be encountered and dry eye conditions can actually be worsened by the treatment. By contrast, the new ortho-k contact lenses for dry eye  simply require the daytime contact lens wearer to switch to overnight wear - a straightforward change - and then enjoy the benefits of not needing to wear anything to see clearly.
